Soviet Wool Goat: All You Need to Know

Soviet wool goat is a breed of goats raised for wool. The breed was developed in Kazakhstan and the republics of Middle Asia between 1947 and 1962 by crossing local coarse-wooled goats with Angora goats.

The breed is adapted to living year-round in the valley and high-mountain pastures. It is used to improve the wool productivity of local coarse-wooled goats. Soviet wool goats are raised in Kazakhstan, the Northern Caucasus, and the republics of Middle Asia.

Origin and history

The Soviet wool goat breed was excavated in the USSR between 1947 and 1967, through continuous work on crossing thick wool goats with representatives of the Angora breed.

Animals of this breed have a strong build and well-developed forms, but they do not look rude. The muscles of the goats of this breed are well developed. The skin has a good mesh layer

Physical characteristics

Males weigh 55–65 kg, and females 38–40 kg. The wool is similar to angora: the white mohair is lustrous and uniform. It is of the 46th-56th quality. One-year-old goats yield wood that is 18–20 cm in length. A clipping from males yields 3–4 kg and from females 1.5–2 kg. The yield of washed wool is 75–80 percent. One hundred females usually produce between 105 and 110 offspring.

Soviet goats give her wool, which is thinner and slightly shorter than the famous mohair, but much thicker than her. Growing and productivity

If goats live in a comfortable climate zone, they grow very fast and can be cut twice a year. Cutting a goat in the fall, in the spring its coat grows to fourteen centimeters

Productivity for the meat of this type of goat is not bad before the slaughter mass of goats castrated at the age of four is forty-six kilograms, and the slaughter mass is 20 kilograms.

It should be noted that this type of goat is not milked, but with proper feeding of the four-month lactation period, the goat produces one hundred kilograms of milk, which is enough for feeding children no more.

The fertility of this breed ranges from one hundred to four hundred and six hundred children’s sheep, and in very good condition, it is one hundred and sixteen or one hundred and twenty children. Goat, born, which weighs a little more than three kilograms, and goat weighs two kilograms of eight grams. By six months of age, babies are gaining forty-eight percent of the weight of adult animals, and by two and a half years, this figure has already reached eighty-eight percent.

Goatskin skins are used for sewing children’s fur coats, and adult animal skins after bandaging are used for sewing various leather things.

The Soviet race spread more widely on the territory of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Tuva, the Republic of Dagestan, the North Caucasus, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the Pamirs.
